On October 17, 2023, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court gave an important decision on gay marriage.The Supreme Court has not recognized its same-sex marriage.A constitutional bench of 5 judges gave this decision with a majority of 3 – 2.The bench comprised Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices SK Kaul, SR Bhatt, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha.A high-powered committee of the Center will investigate the concerns of gay couples.This committee will be chaired by the Union Cabinet Secretary and the Chief Executives of the States will be its members.Currently gay marriages are recognized in 34 countries of the world.
India STEM Conference was organized in New Delhi in October, 2023.STEM stands for – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.This was the fifth edition of the India STEM Conference.The conference was inaugurated by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.Through this conference, development of curiosity, inquisitiveness, critical thinking, problem solving ability, imagination, questioning and exploration skills were induced among the learners.India has the highest number of students obtaining graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

INS Vyas is a warship of the Indian Navy.This is a Brahmaputra class warship.The Defense Ministry has signed an agreement with Cochin Shipyard for the renovation of this warship.This agreement is worth Rs 313 crore.This warship will be renovated with ‘Mid Life Upgrade’.’Mid Life Upgrade’ refers to the upgrading of a warship after it reaches half its service life.INS Vyas will be renovated and handed over to the Navy by the year 2026.The Brahmaputra class frigates have been built under Project 16 (A).
Its first medical college has been established in the north-eastern state of Nagaland in October, 2023.This medical college has been established in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland.This medical college was unveiled by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.This college has been named ‘Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research’.There are 100 seats in the medical college of which 85 are earmarked for Nagaland and 15 for other states.Despite being the second oldest state in the Northeast after Assam, Nagaland was the only state in the region that did not have any medical colleges.

In October, 2023, Mahila Thana located in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, has been awarded ISO certificate.It has become the first women police station in the country to get ISO certificate.It has been awarded ‘9001:2015’ ISO certification.Bhopal Mahila Police Station has been made ‘victim friendly’.A swing house has also been built for children and more than five toilets have been built.A breastfeeding room has also been made for women.This certificate has been given to Bhopal Mahila Police for 3 years.This certificate is awarded by the International Organization for Standardization.This organization was established in the year 1947.
