- October, 2023 Andhra Pradesh government has announced that it will conduct caste-based census of backward classes in the year.
- This census will start by 15th November.
- This was announced by Andhra Pradesh Backward Class Welfare Minister Srinivas Venugopal Krishna.
- The village secretariat system along with volunteers will be used extensively for this census.
- There are about 139 backward class castes in the state and people of these communities are unaware of their numerical strength.
- The State will comprehensively enumerate the backward classes area-wise, profession-wise and other parameters such as socio-economic status.
